A Scientist and an Artist Met in a Wood

Never before an artist Barbara Snapp began to paint and to write poetry and found that she had a new avenue into nature.  Barbara continues to satisfy her scientific curiosity by participating in Project Feederwatch, serving on the Downeast Coastal Conservancy stewardship committee and CREA’s advisory committee, and teaching science-focused enrichment courses at Midcoast Senior College.  Now her curiosity is also informed by and expressed creatively in art.  Barbara’s talk on Tuesday, November 27 will explore how the two worlds…

Mt Ararat Student Research on the Cathance River Nature Preserve

Throughout the fall of 2018, Honors Biology students from Mt Ararat High School made weekly visits to the Preserve to conduct research on a range of topics.  Working in 6 small groups, they chose research questions and collected scientific data. Projects included learning about the heath, the river, salamanders, fishless lakes/vernal pools, mammals, and forest growth. Cathance River Snowshoe/Hike – Great Maine Outdoor Weekend

Celebrate the Great Maine Outdoor Weekend by joining us for a fun morning winter outing in Topsham at the Cathance River Preserve. We will lead the group on a snowshoe or hike (based on conditions) on the trails at the Preserve. The trails will lead us down to the river where the ice formations can be magical in the winter.
