Winter Photography Walk
January 13, 2019 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
Brunswick photographer James McCarthy will lead a photography trek at the Cathance River Nature Preserve that’s inspired, in part, by Thomas Merton’s poem “Love Winter When the Plant Says Nothing.” Merton would have been the first to admit, I think, that his poem’s title is somewhat facetious. Even in winter, buried under snow, plants are saying something, even if it’s the equivalent of a quiet whisper, “I’m waiting for spring.” Even in winter, then, there’s much to explore photographically in the preserve: green ferns growing from a snow-covered rock; ice formations along the banks of the river; abstract patterns of tree shadows criss-crossing in blue across the white snow; animal tracks in the snow.
Jim invites others to join him on a walk with cameras at the ready to record whatever there is to see and love on a winter’s morning in mid-January.
This walk is FREE but registration is required. Please email CREA@creamaine.org to register.
