The Forests of Lilliput

June 3 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

On this nature hike we will explore the diminutive world of non-flowering plants with Maine Master Naturalist instructor Jeff Pengel. We will examine elfin sized lichens, liverworts, and mosses, plus clubmosses and of course, the ferns. Bring a hand lens if you have one, otherwise we’ll provide a loaner. Jeff will explain basic ID but especially the natural history and uniqueness of these often overlooked plants.

Jeff Pengel was trained as a botanist and geologist at the University of Akron. He taught earth science and biology in an urban Cincinnati public school and worked many seasons as an outdoor educator for Nature’s Classroom in Ohio and Pennsylvania. Jeff is a Maine Master Naturalist instructor and volunteers as a naturalist for the Appalachian Mountain Club and several land trusts. He has taught courses about
non-flowering plants at various Maine Senior College facilities.

This program is FREE, but registration is required.
