Mt Ararat Student Research on the Cathance River Nature Preserve
January 29 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm
Throughout the fall of 2018, Honors Biology students from Mt Ararat High School made weekly visits to the Preserve to conduct research on a range of topics. Working in 6 small groups, they chose research questions and collected scientific data. Projects included learning about the heath, the river, salamanders, fishless lakes/vernal pools, mammals, and forest growth. In addition to the guidance of their teacher, Glenn Evans, projects were mentored by local specialists, including Fred Cichocki, Kevin Doran, Kelly Waddle, Daniel Nein, Amanda Shearin, and David Reed. In November and December, students analyzed their data and organized their findings into posters that will be presented at CREA’s first monthly program of 2019 at the Topsham Public Library. These reports will become part of CREA’s database of biological and environmental information for the Preserve.
