Forests of Lilliput – The Miniature World of Lichens and Mosses

March 26, 2019 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Join CREA and Presenter Jeff Pengel at the Topsham Public Library for a talk on a variety of natural history topics on lichens, mosses and similar plants. While these organisms often go unnoticed, they occur in surprising abundance, especially in Maine. Featuring closeup photography, topics will explore these organisms’ unique, and sometimes startling, adaptations that have allowed them to survive for many hundreds of millions of years in some of the most extreme conditions on earth.

Jeff was trained as a botanist and geologist at the University of Akron. He taught earth science and biology in an urban Cincinnati public school and worked many seasons as an outdoor educator for Nature’s Classroom in Ohio and Pennsylvania. Jeff is a Maine Master Naturalist instructor and volunteers as a naturalist for the Appalachian Mountain Club and several land trusts. He has taught courses about
non-flowering plants at various Maine Senior College facilities.

This event is FREE and open to CREA Members and the Community.

Registration is not required.
