Maine Forests: Using the Past to Imagine the Future

Using a diverse array of historical and ecological evidence, Professor Barton will discuss the past, present, and future of the forests of New England, with a focus on Maine. Including photos and selections from Barton’s books The Changing of Nature in the Maine Woods and Ecology and Recovery of Eastern Old-Growth Forests in Eastern North America, this presentation at the Topsham Public Library will discuss the divergent possible paths for the future and the importance of older forests in promoting ecological resilience.
Andrew Barton is a Forest Ecologist & Professor of Biology at the University of Maine at Farmington.
