Wild Wonders: Rainbow Hike

Head outside with an array of color samples (crayons, paint samples, colored pencils, etc) and go for a Rainbow Hike. The goal – find something in nature that matches each color. This activity is a great way to help all of us slow down and look at nature up close.

You can make it more or less challenging depending on how closely you try to match the color. Different seasons pose different challenges, but nature has a match for everything. You just have to look pretty closely to find all her colors. Since nature finds her way into everything, you can do this activity anywhere, including neighborhoods and cities.

You can make a game of it by putting all the colors in a bag and everyone draws the colors they have to find. Or give everyone the same colors and see who finds the most unusual matches. Extend the activity by drawing your matches in a nature journal.
