Glenn Evans' Class Posters

These posters are final project posters that represent many days in the field on the Cathance River Preserve by Glenn Evans and his students from Mt. Ararat High School.

Community Atlas Project

Jeff Davison, 2005 recipient of CREA's Environmental Educator of the year Award, created this website with his students. Jeff is the Alternative Education teacher at SAD 75 and works mostly with high school students. Below is the link to their website.

Glenn Evans' Class Projects

For the first time in its history, the Cathance River Ecology Center and Preserve is the basis for an entire curriculum. Glenn Evans from Mt. Ararat High School has created an elective for seniors called “The Cathance River Preserve: Field Studies and Aspirations,” which began in September 2007. Students conducted scientific research projects ranging from small mammal studies to river quality projects. These studies will develop into multi-age acitivies in the spring as high school students mentor elementary students. Careers in environmental science will also be explored. Glenn is one of CREA’s Environmental Educator of the Year award recipients and has been with CREA since we started in 2000.

You can view some work created by his students here.

Coffin Elementary Student Poems

Ms. Cameron's third grade class from Coffin School came to CREA in Fall of 2009 and made poems and pictures of their visit that they read online.

BHS Student Poems

Brunswick High School English teachers Melissa Heath and Jim O'Donnell worked with CREA's Executive Director Rick Wilson to create a nature poetry unit for Freshman Engish students at BHS. Some Highland Green residents joined them on the Preserve and together the older and younger generation wrote poetry. Below is some of that poetry.

Service Learning Project Posters

These two posters represent recent service learning projects that have taken place on the Preserve or within our Ecology Center.

CREA’s educational philosophy is firmly rooted in hands-on, inquiry and place based education models. Our Executive Director, Rick Wilson, is the Service Learning Coordinator and Community Service Director for the nearby Brunswick School system. We incorporate service learning in both our operations at the Preserve and as a key component in many of our programs.
